Mermaid Perfume Oil

I'm rather partial to fragrances, body mists, room sprays and candles so when I was contacted by Mermaid to feature the Mermaid Perfume Oil on my blog I jumped at the chance! From all away across the pond Mermaid made it to my doorstep, here is what I thought.

Mermaid Perfume Oil * $50

The Mermaid Perfume Oil packaging is simple, elegant and not too fussy in the slightest. I like the gold detail against the white packaging, with the coral toned text adding a nice addition to the finished product.

The oil itself is within a roller ball which makes it really handy for application to areas such as the wrist or even behind the ears, I think this is particularly good for 'on the go' as there is minimal chance that this could end up going everywhere within your bag. The fragrance itself is based upon Orange Blossoms of which I love oranges and I quite like blossom...so I was very optimistic. Whilst I do like the scent of this product I do feel that it is a little bit too strong for my personal taste and after doing some research I did come to realise that perfume oils tend to be the strongest, hence this would explain my thoughts.

I found it too strong at first however I did find that as the hours went by the fragrance did calm down  on my skin, leaving behind quite a nice hint of citrus every now and then which was  quite pleasant. I found that the fragrance lasted pretty well on me which is something I tend to struggle with as I do find it rather irritable to buy a perfume and find it does not last; this however did surprise me.

Mermaid also comes as a perfume spray which I think would be quite nice as it would be lighter than the oil; it is also available in the form of a candle if you fancy something different. I must say I think some other companies may be missing a trick here as imagine your favourite fragrance in a candle form, oh the possibilities!

Mermaid products all retail at $50 which at the time of writing this is equivalent to around £32, placing it mid range of fragrances currently on the market. To me personally this is a tad expensive, however, I do find it refreshing to see a company offering fragrances in a variety of forms.

I know after trying this product I'm still quite keen to try more perfume oils as being offered the opportunity to review this has highlighted to me that perfume oils do last longer on my skin.

*PR Sample, these products were kindly sent to me for my consideration.

Topshop Lipstick 'Macaroon'

I have been so tempted by Topshop make-up ever since I started blogging, I discovered a fantastic range of nail polishes yet it has taken me just under one year to buy one of their lipsticks, and honestly, I'm slightly disappointed...only slightly.

I picked up the Topshop Lipstick in 'Macaroon' a few months ago, it was a choice roughly between this and the much raved about shade 'Whimsical'; in the end I went against the majority and picked up something different. Now don't get me wrong, I do like this lipstick however I find it has little staying power, meaning it needs reapplying quite often throughout the day; it definitely fades quicker than many other products I have. Along with this, having only had this lipstick from Topshop I can only speak for this particular shade but I have found that I 100% need a lip balm under this as it can look pretty awful upon bare lips that are dry, which mine normally are. I do think that if your lips are generally fine then these lipsticks are great!

It is however a beautiful shade of pink with sight hints of coral running through it, of which upon the lips I think it appears a little bit lighter than it initially looks within the bullet. I really do like the texture of the lipstick, it is very creamy and soft which makes me want to purchase another. I've found that this shade is very pigmented which is impressive for a high street brand as even though the colour pay off is fantastic; it isn't too bright or daring therefore making it a brilliant choice for every day.

All in all I'm something like 60/40 in favour of this lipstick, I love it but there's aspects about it that have left me a little bit underwhelmed therefore, even though Whimsical sounds great, I'm rather unsure as to whether to pick it up another as for £8 I could probably find something equally matched, if not better.

I think I've fulfilled my curiosity with Topshop lipsticks for now; although I know I will probably cave in the future! Do you have any recommendations?

Topshop make up is cruelty free which is incredible as I personally think they're pretty influential on the high street, huge thumbs up!

Wishlist Wednesday #11

Let's face it, there's always something that you want to try, I'm definitely no exception. Here are four things that I really fancy trying, what with my birthday a less than two months away I can wish guilt free!

So after spending something like three hours upon Caroline Hirons website I have been fully convinced that I will own the Emma Hardie Natural Life and Sculpt Moringa Cleansing Balm. AT £32 this is certainly not cheap, well; it isn’t cheap for my current position however it does appear to be lasting people quite a while so it sounds like a decent investment. I was going to get this in Edinburgh next week but I'm quite unsure because of the price, I may ask for it for my birthday.

The Ren ClearCalm 3 Clarifying Clay Cleanser is more reasonable at £18; this has had some lovely things written about it recently so I'm quite keen to give it ago.

I saw the Illamasqua Cream Blusher in 'Lies' in a Youtube video by Pixiwoo, it looked gorgeous! I really would like to have a closer look at this in store though as it may be a little too shimmery and indeed light for me, for now though I really like the look of it. Illamasqua Cream Blushers are priced at £18 making this the most expensive blusher I would own if I picked it up.

Last up in this really quite unique bottle is the fragrance 'Aqua' by Roberto Cavalli. My mom originally told me about this a few weeks ago and up until Saturday I still had no smelt it in store. I now have and I think it is lovely, the bottle too is gorgeous. As with all fragrances the prices vary depending on the size of the bottle, the cheapest version available for Aqua is £32 for 30ml.

Ted Baker Blogger Competition

I rarely enter competitions like this, unless it is something that I'm 100% interested in. The Ted BakerSpring/Summer Blogger Competition just happens to be one of those; therefore I was so pleased to be asked to take part.

If you would like to take part (which I fully recommend as there are some gorgeous pieces to put together) then all you have to do is:

Pick three of your favourite items, post the look on your blog and explain why you chose what you did and where you would wear it. Oh and don't forget to tweet the link to @ted_baker with the hash tag #tedss13 so that Ted can have a look!

After having a lovely browse of the site I found my three favourite things, here is my look!

Gojji Orchid Print Maxi Dress, Bumblebee Necklace, Embossed Exotic Shopper

I'm rather smitten with the Gojji Orchid Print Maxi Dress, being rather short myself I tend to shy away from these yet I would be brave and go for it if I owned this as it is a gorgeous item of clothing. I love Orchids and this design really reminds me of an oriental theme which immediately captures my interest.

I thought the Bumblebee Necklace would really complement this dress as it isn't too bold, I think it would add a nice touch of detail to the neckline whilst not taking anything away from the dress. Plus, I have a huge soft spot for bumblebees; they're awesome little guys which we all should be looking after a lot more, along with our precious honeybees.

Lastly I added a nice big bag, with my choice being the Embossed Exotic Shopper. This is available in a number of colours with my favourite being in 'tan', I personally think this is the nicest colour to go with the dress too which is lucky! I like a big bag as I tend to carry a lot around with me, of course if I could have any bag to go with this dress I would have Hermione’s beaded magic bag; I think that is a bit too much to ask for though.

This outfit would be perfect for a nice day out when the sun is shining, whether that is to a nice picnic or out to a summer funfair. I also think that it could be made slightly more edgy whilst keeping the feminine aspect by adding a simple black leather jacket.
